Gertrude (Murray) Crosbie Memorial Scholarship

Gertrude Murray Crosbie was born on May 25, 1925 and was the only child of Andrew and Janet (Miller) Murray. In 1947, she married Alexander (Bill) Crosbie and they were the parents of five children. Their second child, Andrea lives with cerebral palsy. In 1961, the Crosbies along with other parents of children with cerebral palsy formed the CP Association to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Mrs. Crosbie believed that learning is a lifelong pursuit. When Mrs. Crosbie died in 2004, the family requested that donations in her memory be given to the CP Association. The Association decided that funds received be used to establish a scholarship in her memory.

Each year, the CPANL will award a $500.00 scholarship to an individual with cerebral palsy who has been accepted to or is currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program or Adult Basic Education (ABE). The recipient of this scholarship will be a person who has persevered in their efforts to improve their independence and who has shown determination in attaining their goals.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their application to the Cerebral Palsy Association of NL by June 15th.

Parent Support Group

The Cerebral Palsy Association of Newfoundland and Labrador offers a support group that gives parents the chance to meet and share their knowledge and experiences with others facing similar challenges. No one truly understands the physical, emotional, social and practical challenges of parenting a child with a disability better than another parent.

Every child is a gift, but raising a child with cerebral palsy is a unique responsibility. Through our support group we socialize, share ideas and insights, and offer support to other families raising children with CP and similar disabilities.

If you are interested in finding out more about our Parent Support Group, or if you would like to be added to our list, please send a quick email with some brief information about your family to: info@cerebralpalsynl.com (All information entered is kept confidential, and will not posted publicly).
